Description

A Jewish history tour in Milan on foot, about three hours from the Shoah Memorial to the Central Synagogue, following the story of the city's Jews from Roman times to today.

This Jewish history tour in Milan follows the story of the city's Jewish community from Roman times to today, one place at a time. It lasts about three hours and combines walking with public transport, and it is as much about memory as about sights.

The first stop is the Shoah Memorial near the central station, an authentic deportation site that is part of the visit, with admission included. Next is Piazza della Scala, where Verdi's Nabucco, an opera that stands for exile and identity, ties music to memory. After the square and the Galleria, the route reaches the former SS headquarters, a place of imprisonment and torture for Jews, and a stumbling stone, a Stolperstein. A Renaissance courtyard follows, once the seat of the Fascist police.

You then walk to the Duomo through Piazza dei Mercanti and finish at the Central Synagogue, which connects the past to today's Jewish community. The guide also shares tips about Jewish life in Milan now.
