Description

A Milan ghost tour on foot through shadowy streets, from a church whose ossuary walls are covered in human bones to the legend of a bride at the Duomo.

This Milan ghost tour takes about two hours on foot and trades the city's polished side for its witches, ghosts and unsolved crimes. A guide tells the stories as you walk through shadowy streets, from haunted buildings to places with a tragic past.

The first stop is San Bernardino alle Ossa, a church with an ossuary where human bones line every wall. From there the route passes buildings with a dark past and the sites of old witches' sabbaths, and reaches Piazza della Vetra and its so-called bridge of death.

Not every tale is frightening. Two tragic love stories are tied to the Pinacoteca Ambrosiana and Palazzo Carmagnola, and they inspired artists as famous as Leonardo da Vinci and the poet Lord Byron. Near the Duomo you hear about Carlina, a young bride who died on her honeymoon in Milan and who, the legend says, turns up in black in some wedding photos taken at the cathedral, bringing good luck rather than fright.

The ossuary has its own opening hours and is closed on Sundays, so it can be visited before or after the tour. Wear comfortable shoes: some streets are dimly lit. The tour is not recommended for people with heart conditions or for wheelchair users.
