On this Genoa and Portofino day trip from Milan, a coach carries you down to the Ligurian coast for a full day of history and sea. Genoa comes first, the capital of Liguria and the country's biggest port. People call it La Superba because of its lavish palaces, and its old centre, where Christopher Columbus was born, is UNESCO listed.
A tour leader walks you through the old town and its landmarks: the Doge's Palace, the Royal Palace and San Lorenzo Cathedral. After that the time is yours, for the alleys, a coffee or a museum.
In the afternoon the coach heads for the easygoing resort of Rapallo and you board a boat for Portofino. Today the village is known around the world for pastel houses and an elegant harbour. Its ancient name, Portus Delphini, points to the dolphins that filled the Gulf of Tigullio. You walk along the waterfront, then sail on to Santa Margherita Ligure, where the coach waits for the return to Milan.
Food, drinks, tips and hotel pick-up are not included, and wheelchair users cannot join.
