Description
This private Milan Cathedral tour gives you a licensed guide just for your group and skip-the-line tickets that save you the queue at the ticket office. You choose how much to see: the cathedral and its museum, or a longer version that adds the archaeological area and the rooftops, with or without a private car to collect you and bring you back.
The walk starts at Piazza della Scala, where the opera house stands beside a monument to Leonardo da Vinci. From there you cross the 19th-century arcade of the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II and arrive in the square of the Duomo di Milano. Inside, the guide explains a Gothic building that needed close to six centuries to finish: 52 pillars of dark stone, a marble floor, stained-glass windows and works such as Saint Bartholomew Flayed. The museum, in the Royal Palace, holds statues, tapestries, paintings, architectural models and terracottas from the cathedral.
On the longer option you go up to the rooftops by elevator instead of climbing 250 steps. Up there you can see the spires and pinnacles close by, with the golden Madonnina on the Great Spire, and look over the old town.
